City with the cleanest air in India: In a concerted effort to combat air pollution and enhance air quality in cities across the nation, the National Clean Air Program was initiated, aiming to evaluate and uplift the air standards in urban areas. The Environment and Ministry officials meticulously selected 131 cities across different states for assessment and improvement under this program.

Sivasagar: The city with the cleanest air in India

According to the latest findings, Sivasagar in Assam emerged as the front-runner, boasting the best average air quality throughout the year nationwide. The city’s air quality was deemed exceptional, with a remarkably low concentration of PM10, a particulate matter known for its adverse health effects. Sivasagar recorded a mere 42 micrograms per cubic meter of PM10, setting a new benchmark for clean air in India.

The second spot on the list was secured by Sunder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh, with a PM10 concentration of 46. Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh and Trichy in Tamil Nadu clinched the third position with an admirable air quality index, registering an average PM10 concentration of 47 micrograms per cubic meter throughout the year.

Silchar Comes Fourth

Silchar, another city in Assam, claimed the fourth spot with a PM10 concentration of 49 micrograms per cubic meter. This serves as a reminder that while progress has been made, challenges persist, and there is a need for continued efforts to address air quality concerns.

Latur in Maharashtra proudly secured the fifth position, with Union Ministry data indicating that the average PM10 concentration did not exceed 53 micrograms per cubic meter throughout the year. This accomplishment underscores the positive strides made by cities nationwide in combating air pollution and fostering healthier living environments.

These rankings underscore the importance of a collective commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable urban development. As cities across India strive to improve air quality, it is evident that concerted efforts and strategic initiatives yield tangible results. The success stories of Sivasagar, Sunder Nagar, Parwanoo, Trichy, and Latur serve as beacons of hope, inspiring other cities to prioritize clean air initiatives and work towards a greener, healthier future for all.
