The statue itself is 84 feet tall, and it sits on a base that’s 41 feet high. So altogether, it’s a giant(125ft) statue! The giant statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan is located at Lachit Maidam, Sorumona Poria, Jorhat Assam.
Before the big reveal, PM Modi took part in a special ceremony. It’s a tradition from the Ahom people, who are native to Assam. PM Modi also talked about how Bir Lachit Borphukan is a big symbol of bravery for Assam.
Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was there too, standing next to PM Modi. They both showed how important it is to honor Assam’s history and culture.
This whole project started back in February 2022 when the President of India at that time, Ram Nath Kovind, laid down the first stone. They picked a place called Hollongapar in Jorhat for the statue. Alongside the statue, they’re also building a museum and some other things to remember Bir Lachit Borphukan.
