Mahindra Thar Booking: Mahindra, the leading SUV manufacturer in the Indian market, continues to dominate with its flagship model, the Mahindra Thar. The recent revelation about Thar’s November bookings has left the automotive industry buzzing, and even market giant Maruti Suzuki has taken notice.
In a surprising turn of events, Mahindra Thar reported a staggering 76,000 units in open bookings for November 2023. The company has consistently maintained a monthly booking rate exceeding 10,000 units. Particularly noteworthy is the 70-week waiting period for the rear-wheel-drive petrol variant and the even longer wait of 24 weeks for the rear-wheel-drive hard-top diesel variant.
The Mahindra Thar, with a price range starting from INR 10.98 lakhs and going up to INR 16.94 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), continues to attract consumers despite a recent price hike of INR 43,000.

The Indian market has two variants to choose from – AX(O) and LX, available in six color options: Everest White, Blazing Bronze, Aquamarine, Red Rage, Napoli Black, and Galaxy Grey.
Mahindra Thar Engine: Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar offers three engine options. The 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generates 152 bhp and 320 Nm torque, while the 2.2-liter diesel engine produces 130 bhp and 300 Nm torque. Additionally, a new 1.5-liter diesel engine with 118 bhp and 300 Nm torque is exclusively available for the rear-wheel-drive model.
Loaded with features, the Mahindra Thar boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, cruise control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, halogen headlights with LED DRLs, steering-mounted controls, and premium leather seats.
Safety is a top priority for the Thar, evident in its four-star safety rating from Global NCAP. The vehicle comes equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring system, hill-hold assist, and seat belt reminder for both driver and front passenger.
In the fiercely competitive Indian market, the Mahindra Thar faces direct competition from models like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha. Furthermore, the anticipation is building for the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar, promising enhanced features and capabilities.
